German-born discount food retailer Lidl are to donate up to two million meals a year in the UK. The well-known brand are projected to have all stores involved in this programme by summer 2018.

An 8 week-long pilot scheme involving Yorkshire and Lincolnshire-based stores dished out meals to community centres, elderly day care centres, housing support projects and children’s centres.

Lidl plan to establish links with local charities that will be able to collect food surplus each day from individual stores.
