The Construction Voice
2018 is GO!
With 2017 now firmly behind us (a welcome relief for many) it’s time to look forward positively to the challenges and opportunities that 2018 will bring.
The growth of the Build to Rent sector (BTR), progress with HS2, further use of offsite manufacturing in construction and the development of sustainable cities are all reasons to be excited. We’re privileged to see the Carbon Innovation District get off the ground in our home city, Leeds.
Big Boys v SME’s
One of our big observations from 2017 was peoples changing attitudes to their career plans. The well-publicised issues at Carillion have made a significant number of professionals re-evaluate their beliefs that in order to build a successful, secure, long term career you have to work for one of the ‘big boys’.
Now more than ever we are seeing a host of SME type companies attracting Top Professionals from the established ‘big boys’.
New talent coming into the market are now also less fixed on working with the likes of Carillion, opting to work with vibrant, flexible, well run SME’s where their efforts and successes can be fully recognised and rewarded by the people running the company.
We’re pleased to work with a growing number of well run, well respected SME organisations across the Construction industry and look forward to following their continued success throughout 2018.
Are you productive?
With a seemingly growing number of external factors having an effect on our companies and careers, it’s important that we react positively to the challenges that we can control. This should be of the upmost importance to both employees and employers.
A hot topic in the media towards the end of 2017 was ‘productivity’.
“Productivity isn’t everything, but in the long run it is almost everything,” Paul Krugman, Nobel Prize-winning economist, 1994.
This statement is as valid today as it was then. Productivity, or output per hour by workers, is the key driver of economic growth.
Here’s our most recent blog post on productivity. We hope you find it an interesting read.
