A new £9.7m business support initiative, the Manufacturing Growth Programme (MGP), has been launched to benefit Yorkshire-based SME manufacturers.

The fund will provide specialist assistance to help firms grow and improve; offering support services in management training, R&D, lean manufacturing, productivity and capacity, quality systems and supply chain development.

19 Manufacturing Growth Managers will work with firms, helping them to complete action plans and strategic business reviews which will result in proposed growth and improvement.

Lorraine Holmes, CEO of Economic Growth Solutions, who deliver the programme, said: “These projects have created lots of new jobs and, over the course of two years, we believe we’ll help to generate thousands more. We’re here to help them [the industry] maximise the most of new opportunities.”
